FIBRE DICE, MIX and BRIX

Roughage is extremely important for the gastrointestinal tract of a horse. Not only is it important that a horse has enough roughage at its disposal (in terms of quantity) all day, but the quality of the forage has much influence on the health of horses and ponies as well.
Horse owners often find it difficult to evaluate or estimate the quality of their roughage. Just by it’s looks one can assess whether the roughage is coarse, if it smells fresh and whether it contains a lot of dust/dirt. It is impossible however, to judge from the outside whether it contains high or low levels of for example protein or sugar.
To have an insight in the exact nutritional values, laboratories can provide an analysis of the roughage.
During recent years many analyses show a declining trend in nutritional values of roughage; especially the protein content is declining disturbingly. This may cause problems - especially for horses in exercise and broodmares.

HAVENS offers three products to dissolve a low level of protein in roughage; FIBRE DICEMIX and BRIX. These products do not only upgrade the horse’s diet (by providing building stones for muscles), but also ensure more chewing and saliva production (healthier digestion, neutralizes excess acid in the stomach).

FIBRE DICE

HAVENS Fibre Dice with apple is ideal for all breeds as a healthy treat or to supplement or upgrade the roughage consumption.
The very tasty nuggets are composed of timothy chaff, alfalfa, dried apple bits and apple aroma. Here you can find the productsheet (click).

  • Extra large chunks for maximum structure; plenty to chew on.
  • Constant, high quality.
  • Low in starch and sugar and without the addition of molasses, vitamins or cereals.
  • Dried with hot air; free of dust and mold.
  • Very tasty; ideal for fussy feeders.
  • Can be fed dry or soaked with water (recommended for (old) horses that are dentally challenged)

Feeding guideline:
As 100% forage replacer: approx.1.5 kg per 100 kg bodyweight per day.
To upgrade the roughage intake: 1 kg of HAVENS Fibre Dice replaces 1 kg of hay.

HAVENS MIX

A high quality chaff of timothy grass (Phleum pratense), Lucerne (medicago sativa) and a blend of linseed products (linum usitatissimum). MIX can be perfectly used to upgrade your horse’s diet (proteins, amino-acids) and to increase the eating time (mixed with concentrate feed). The high fibre content promotes chewing which helps saliva production, an important part of the digestive health. A well chewing horse is a happy horse.  Linseed is a natural source of omega acids.

  • Free of molasses, grains and grain by-products
  • Source of high quality lucerne-proteins and amino acids
  • Optimized ca/ph ratio
  • Low sugar (7.3%) and starch (2.4%) content; fits in a diet low in non-structural carbohydrates
  • Linseed and linseed oil provide valuable omega acids

Feeding guideline:
A bale (15 kg) is divided into 10 portions of 1.5kg each, and thus easy to dose. HAVENS MIX is an excellent choice to add to all sorts of concentrate feed and can be used as a partial or complete forage replacer. Due to its ideal ca/ph ratio, no limits apply to the feeding quantity (unlike Lucerne)

HAVENS BRIX

consist of compressed pure lucerne and mint, ideal as a treat or toupgrade your horse’s diet. Your horse can chew on the BRIX which can help relieve boredom.  The high fibre content promotes chewing, saliva production and digestive health. A HAVENS BRIX in the manger with the concentrate feed will help prevent gobbling. It works like the well-known stones in the manger, except BRIX is a healthy edible alternative. Dried mint has been added to tempt even the most picky eaters.

  • Highly digestible proteins (16,5%) and essential amino acids
  • Low sugar content of 5,7% (hay contains usually around 10% sugar)
  • Free of molasses, grains and grain by-products
  • Compact and easy-to-feed
  • As a treat or to relieve boredom

Feeding guidelines
One BRIX weighs about 1kg each (2.2lbs) and can be easily broken in two pieces (1.1 lbs each) and divided over several feeds. As part of your horse’s daily feeding routine, 1-3 Brix a day can be fed. This advice is based on a 500 kg (1100lbs) horse in light to medium work.

Tip: HAVENS BRIX can also be used as a reward and are ideal whilst on the road or competing
